Natural Skin Remedies

Natural Skin Care

Whether the label on your face wash listing 20 ingredients you can’t pronounce makes you cringe or the price of your fancy night cream has you deciding between being wrinkle free and paying your rent, these natural skin remedies are for you. Chemical free and straight from the kitchen, these simple products can do anything from remove even your boldest smoky eye to lessen the appearance of wrinkles.

Cleanse

Face CleanserIt’s so tempting to come home from a long day and fall right into bed even in a face full of makeup, trust me, I’ve done it. No matter how tired you are, it is so important to take off all your makeup before bed. Remember that smoky eye I mentioned earlier? Cold-pressed, virgin, organic coconut oil is the only thing you need to remove it. All you have to do is warm up the oil in your hands, apply to your entire face, and wipe away the oil (and makeup) with a cotton ball or clean cloth. If coconut oil isn’t for you, try extra-virgin, organic olive oil instead.

So you’ve taken off your makeup. Time to clean up just a little bit more. Raw, organic honey is a wonderful antiseptic and can remedy anything from eczema to acne. Make sure your face is already wet before attempting to spread the honey over your skin and wash as you would with a store-bought cleanser.

Moisturize

Take the coconut oil back out of your bathroom cabinet because it also makes an amazing moisturizer. I find it is best to use a very small amount in the morning so it will absorb quickly and a larger amount at night to give your skin some extra moisture. If you have oily skin, don’t worry. Coconut oil has antimicrobial properties that can help fight breakouts and it absorbs very quickly into the skin so you won’t look greasy.

Treat

Acne? Wrinkles? No need to reach for expensive spot treatments, serums, and creams. What you’ll need instead is basil, lemon, yeast, and avocado. For acne prevention, try a simple basil toner before cleansing. Mix 3 tablespoons dried basil in 1 cup of boiling water, strain, and transfer to a spray bottle for easy application. Basil is a natural antiseptic perfect for fighting acne.

Still need a spot treatment? Try mixing Brewer’s Yeast with lemon juice and water until it forms a paste. Apply onto any blemishes for ten minutes and then rinse.

If you’re looking to treat or prevent wrinkles and all of the other wonderful side-effects of aging, however, an avocado is all you’ll need. Simply stir up the fruit with a fork until smooth and apply to your face for 10-20 minutes. Avocado can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Pamper

AromatherapyIn addition to your daily routine, your skin can use a little extra pampering a few times a week. Baking soda and brown sugar make great exfoliating scrubs.

I suggest using brown sugar for dry or sensitive skin as it is less abrasive. Add water to the baking soda and olive oil to the brown sugar until your mixture forms a paste.

Gently scrub your face with your exfoliating scrub and rinse off for fresh, glowing skin.

To give your skin even more love, try a nourishing mask.

I’ve already mentioned using avocado for an anti-aging mask but there are so many recipes for natural masks you can target pretty much and skin concern.

  1. Bananas for Dry Skin: Mush up a banana and apply to face for about 15 minutes. Rinse and enjoy your moisturized skin.
  2. Oats for Oily Skin: Try mixing 1/3 cup of plain oats with 1/2 cup of hot water. Then add 2 tablespoons each of honey and plain yogurt as well as 1 egg white. Mix well and apply to your face for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Eggs for Acne: This is a mask I use every week and it is so easy. Stir up an egg white and apply it to your face. Wait a few minutes for the first layer to dry and spread on another layer of egg white. I like to keep the mask on for 10 minutes before rinsing.

Natural skin care can produce the same results as expensive, chemical, store-bought concoctions. And you don’t need to get into expensive medical careers just to learn how to diagnose intricate reasons why your skin is not as healthy as you want it to be. Removing make up and moisturizing is easy with coconut oil and targeting specific skin concerns like acne is possible with rejuvenating masks. With little effort and a lot less cash, your skin can be glowing with all natural remedies right from your kitchen. There are even natural skin remedies online that you can use to treat and reduce appearance of various skin conditions.
